The Oplan foundation is a non profit NGO, which has been established to educate people on the potential benefits of taking an OPLAN approach to the development of advanced digital local infrastructure to serve their own community. The foundation seeks to build greater awareness and understanding of the massive social and economic benefits that OPLANs can deliver to their communities. The foundation aims to provide these widely dispersed OPLANs with a common cause platform or meta community.
AirJaldi is a social enterprise established in Dharamsala, India. High speed Internet has changed the world by bridging -from educational and political to cultural and linguistic. However some gaps have not been narrowd and some have been widened. This is particularly true for rural communities in developing countries, where building Internet infrastructures is not economically attractive due to the high cost of reaching users with low purchasing power. AirJaldi builds viable and sustainable wireless broadband networks for the benefit of rural communities in developing countries. AirJaldi presently overseas three networks in Himachal Pradesh, and one in Uttaranchal. The Dharamsala Wireless-Mesh Community Network Tibetan SOS Vocational Training Center Djursland International Institute of Rural Wireless Broadband is run as a co-operate educational effort between the Wireless Broadband Community Djurslands.net and Grenaa Technical School. Training international students from rural areas in organisation and establishment of wireless networks using The Djursland model. Using the Djursland model the student will gain experience to go home and bridge the technological and social divide, which otherwise prevent rural areas all over the world from participation in the global information society.
OpenSpectrumUK is an ad hoc coalition of non profit organisations engaged in community wireless networking and promotion of license free access to public airwaves. The availability of spectrum for license-exempt use has enabled us to develop cost-effective, user owned networks to provide Internet access and localised information services for the benefit of many thousands of UK residents.
The Latin American Networking School was established to respond to the need for training Latin Americans in design, installation, management and administration of Computer Networks at the service of academic Centers. The workshops aim to contribute to the training of technicians and professionals from Latin America and the Caribbean in Information and Communication Technologies, with emphasis in hands on aspects and new developments, like wireless Technologies and the use of Open Source Software.
Freifunk.net is a not commercial, for every open initiatives and part of a global movement to the creation of free infrastructures. Our vision is the democratization of the communication media and the production of more local social structures through free networks. More and more Freifunk Communities in the entire world through the construction, free and independent country networks and city radio networks in attack take the practical conversion of the idea.
The Open Knowledge Foundation is a not for profit organisation. The Open knowledge Foundation promotes the openness of knowledge in all its forms, in the belife that freer access to information will have far reaching social and commercial benefits. The Open Knowledge Foundation in particular promote the idea of open knowledge for example by running a series of forums. Instigate and support projects related to the creation and distribution of open knowledge. Campaign against restrictions, both legal and non-legal, on open knowledge.
